Pensionierter Polizist soll für Drogenhändler den Mord an seiner Frau aufdecken, gewinnt dabei neue Freunde und entdeckt ein Komplott von Irren.
„Ruhet in Frieden – A Walk Among the Tombstones“ ist ganz offensichtlich einer dieser „Liam Neeson spielt den einsamen Rächer“- Filme. Irgendwie ist der arme Mann auf eine Rolle festgelegt. Da er diese aber fast immer sehr überzeugend spielt und der düstere Eindruck des Films mein Interesse fand, gelangte diese Blu Ray an einem Abend in meinen Player:
Matt Scudder (Liam Neeson) ist pensionierter Polizist. Bei einem Raubüberfall auf ein Restaurant erschoss er die flüchtigen Täter, tötete aber dabei auch ein unschuldiges Mädchen durch einen Querschläger. Seitdem hat er mit dem Trinken aufgehört, den Polizeidienst quittiert und nimmt regelmäßig an Versammlungen der Anonymen Alkoholiker teil. Seinen Lebensunterhalt verdient er sich als Detektiv und manchmal auch als Auftragskiller. Über den Junkie (Peter), den Bruder des Drogendealers Kenny Kristo bekommt er den Auftrag, die Mörder von Kennys Frau zu finden. Zunächst lehnt er ab. Doch dann erzählt ihm Kenny die ganze Geschichte. Seine Frau war von Unbekannten entführt worden, Kenny hatte ein heruntergehandeltes Lösegeld bezahlt und danach nur noch die zerstückelte Leiche seiner Frau erhalten. Jetzt greift Scudder zu. Seine Nachforschungen in der öffentlichen Bibliothek bringen ihn in Kontakt mit dem jungen TJ, der obdachlos ist und sich als Amateurdetektiv versteht. Er verfolgt Scudder und schaltet sich gegen dessen Willen in die Ermittlungen ein. Peter, der Bruder von Kenny, hatte offenbar ein Verhältnis mit der ermordeten Frau. Scudder hat zudem entdeckt, dass es schon ähnliche Fälle gegeben hat. Vor einigen Jahren war eine junge Frau verschleppt und in Einzelteilen auf einem Friedhof wiedergefunden worden. Der Verlobte der Ermordeten erweist sich bei Scudders Nachforschungen als Drogendealer. Über den Friedhofsgärtner, der die Leiche entdeckt hatte, kommt Scudder den damaligen Tätern auf die Spur. Diese sind offenbar Soziopathen, die eine Art Selbstjustiz betreiben und Familienangehörige von Drogendealern entführen und quälen. Da er davon ausgeht, dass weiter Taten folgen, bittet er Kenny, seine Geschichte im „Kollegenkreis“ der Dealer zu erzählen. So gerät er an den russischstämmigen Dealer Landau, dessen 14-jährige Tochter Lucia gerade entführt wurde. Scudder übernimmt die Verhandlungen und stellt so sicher, dass das Mädchen nicht – wie alle anderen Opfer bisher – schon vor der Lösegeldübergabe getötet wird. Auf dem Friedhof kommt es dann zur Übergabe. Als die Entführer feststellen, dass man ihnen Falschgeld angedreht hat, kommt es zu einer Schießerei. Dabei kommt Peter um und die Entführer fliehen. Der junge TJ kann sich in deren Auto verstecken und weist Scudder und den Dealern den Weg zum Versteck. Dort bringt zunächst der eine Entführer den anderen um. Kenny und Scudder dringen ein und Kenny will alleine Rache nehmen. Als Scudder kurz darauf in das Haus zurück kehrt, findet er Kennys Leiche und liefert sich mit dem verbleibenden Entführer einen Kampf auf Leben und Tod. Scudder überlebt, tötet den Entführer und kümmert sich fortan um den jungen TJ.
Ja, „Ruhet in Frieden – A Walk Among the Tombstones“ es ist ein üblicher „Liam Neeson, der Rächer der Witwen und Waisen“-Film. Aber er ist solide gemacht. Besonders gut gefallen haben mir die düstere Stimmung und die hervorragenden Toneffekte bei den Schießereien, bei denen man auch nicht gerade sparsam mit Munition umgeht. Die Handlung ist weitestgehend stringent, nur die Verbrüderung der Drogenbarone ist etwas schwer nachzuvollziehen. Es gibt viele emotional berührende Motive, die aber glücklicherweise nicht im Kitsch enden. Natürlich werden auch viele Klischees bedient. „Ruhet in Frieden – A Walk Among the Tombstones“ ist eine Art amerikanisches Remake des Film Noir der 40er Jahre. Neeson gibt eine aktualisierte Version von Humphrey Bogart wieder. Wer dessen Filme mag, wird auch diesen mögen.
